99 Problems but a Great Dane Ain’t One….

Sometimes being a furry mommy is challenging. VERY challenging. For example, when your boyfriend refuses to neuter your shih tzu because of some unfathomable male reasoning that baffles you. Yet, he is insistent that Darla get spayed.

Sexism? I think so.

But really, I don’t blame him for wanting to spay Darla. Her appointment is finally coming after this heat cycle ends. Our baby Dane will never have baby Danes, which I’m cool with. If my shih tzu ever achieved his goal when she is in heat…well, that is how you get Newfoundlands right? It is better for her and better for us, especially since a Great Dane’s heat lasts a month. Yes, you read that right. ONE MONTH. Try finding a diaper that fits a 125 lb dog. If you can, I then invite you to try and keep it on her. If she didn’t get it off, I assure you her loyal shih tzu guard would.

While the boyfriend and I navigate the waters of finding a new house, our pack is temporarily divided, since Tiberious, Willow and I are staying with my mother and the boyfriend, Thor and Darla are staying with his mother. Needless to say, I think grandma will appreciate that Darla will no longer bleed all over the place for three weeks every six months. Thor is next on the list, just don’t tell the boyfriend.

Here is where I ask for your good vibes, readers. As I said, Darla is scheduled for her spaying as so as this cycle is over and though I know it is a routine surgery, I’m still nervous. The doctor found some cysts, one fairly big, which worries me. The C word was tossed out there, and though I know cysts are fairly common in big dogs, I don’t want them to be malignant. I want her to come out, cyst free, tube tied and healthy.  So please, send us some good vibes and prayers for her swift and happy recovery! For more information on why spaying and neutering is good for your dog, read this ASPCA article. Keeping our friends healthy and happy is the top responsibility for all us furry friend pet parents! So as nervous as I am about Darla going under the knife, I know that it is the best choice for her health. She’ll still be my baby Dane. Due to general craziness, we have been away for a while, but now that things are settling down, I am making it a point to post a lot more often, bringing you fun stories about the original Furry Misfits and their new friends! Until next time readers.
